PE and Sport Premium
What is the PE and Sport Premium?
The Department for Education (DfE) wants all children to have access to high-quality physical education (PE), school sport and opportunities to participate in a wide range of physical activities.
The UK Chief Medical Officers recommend that children and young people take part in at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day.
The PE and Sport Premium is additional government funding provided to primary schools to improve the quality of PE, sport and physical activity. The funding aims to help schools make sustainable improvements that benefit all pupils and support healthy, active lifestyles.
How should the funding be spent?
Schools should use the funding to:
- make additional and sustainable improvements to the PE, sport and physical activity they provide
- improve the quality of PE teaching through professional development and training for staff
- increase pupils' participation in physical activity and school sport
- provide a broader range of sports and activities
- increase opportunities for competitive sport
- promote healthy, active lifestyles
- ensure equal access to sport and physical activity for all pupils
Our PE and Sport Premium Strategy
At St Joseph's, we use the PE and Sport Premium to enhance the quality of physical education, increase participation in sport and physical activity, and develop staff expertise to ensure long-term improvements for all pupils.
