Pupils at St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Newton Aycliffe enjoyed a memorable Roald Dahl Day celebration, with a special assembly led by the school's Reading Ambassadors.
During the assembly, children listened to a short extract from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, one of Roald Dahl's most popular stories. The reading helped bring to life the excitement, wonder and imagination that have made Dahl's books favourites for generations of young readers.
To extend the celebrations, each class received a chocolate bar to share. Every child enjoyed a small piece, mirroring the way Charlie Bucket treasured his precious chocolate bar in the famous story.
Adding to the excitement, one wrapper contained a special Golden Ticket. Children eagerly waited to discover which class would be the lucky winner.
After plenty of anticipation, Year 5/6 found the Golden Ticket and were rewarded with 50 Dojos each for their success.
The school thanked its Reading Ambassadors for helping to organise and deliver the event, which created a fun and engaging way to celebrate reading.
The Roald Dahl Day activities were designed to encourage children to explore the joy of books and discover more of the author's much-loved stories, while highlighting the important role reading plays in school life.
For many pupils, the highlight of the day was the hunt for the Golden Ticket, making it a celebration they are unlikely to forget any time soon.
